How China’s public holidays work
China’s national holiday breaks can include statutory holidays, ordinary weekends and shifted rest days. The annual State Council notice sets the actual days off and the weekend dates designated for work. A seven-day break does not mean seven statutory holiday days.
For 2027, we publish reference dates without inventing extended breaks or makeup days. A festival’s date alone cannot tell you whether nearby weekdays or weekends will be days off.
This reference covers nationwide arrangements in mainland China. It does not cover local holidays or the separate calendars of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
Adjusted working days in 2027
No adjusted working days for 2027 are confirmed on this site. “Awaiting notice” means unknown, rather than zero makeup days. Do not assume every 2027 weekend will be a day off.
Banks, government, logistics & travel
Banks and government offices
Treat holiday breaks as dates to verify service availability. Branch counters, appointment desks and settlement systems may have their own operating schedules. Online services can remain available while processing waits for a working day.
Logistics and business
Confirm collection times, delivery commitments and staff availability directly with your provider. An official adjusted workday does not guarantee that an overseas partner or every private business will be operating.
Travel
Before committing to travel, confirm transport schedules, ticket releases and attraction opening hours. For provisional 2027 dates, choose flexible bookings and recheck once the national notice is published.
Chinese New Year: factory & shipping notes
Chinese New Year’s Day falls on February 6, 2027; the official mainland holiday break remains unconfirmed. Individual factories and shipping providers may stop or resume operations outside the national break. Ask your existing partners for their last order, dispatch and reopening dates before setting a deadline.
Planning a shipment? A quick confirmation with your supplier and carrier can prevent a missed handover.
Sources & update policy
China Foreign Exchange Trade System’s provisional 2027 planning notice ↗ is a reference, not the national holiday schedule. Chinese New Year’s Day is cross-checked against the Macao government’s festival dates; its days off are not used for mainland China.
Our editorial target is to verify and publish an update within 24 hours of the official 2027 notice. Each change records its source and date. Read the full methodology.
